Tehran

I took this picture from the back seat of the cab as we drove into Tehran from the airport Wednesday. At first it looked like any other airport highway, except that all the signs were in Farsi. Then we passed the enormous ornate gold mausoleum of the Ayatollah Khomeini and suddenly it couldn't be anywhere but Iran.

Blogging will be sporadic until I get home, but I'll try to post a few pictures along the way. The wifi in our 5-star Tehran hotel was often unusably slow -- I wanted to post all my draft entries from Istanbul, and sometimes I had to click Publish twenty times before it went through. I don't expect it will suddenly be any faster in the smaller cities we go to next.
