Windcatchers


The most distinctive feature in the architecture of Yazd are the badgirs, or wind towers. They catch any breeze that happens to be passing by, and channel it down to street level. It sounds as though it couldn't possibly work that well, but standing underneath one of the shafts is like standing in front of an air conditioner.
