The actual fire is behind the doors. I was surprised by, and immediately loved, the homeliness of it. This could be a parlor in an old house in the United States -- except that few of them display portraits of Zoroaster, or keep a fire burning behind closed doors.
We had to remove our shoes to enter, so I assume the slippers below are there for whoever is tending the fire -- which can never be allowed to go out -- to slip on when they come in.
