Urban poetry

The northern parts of Tehran sit on the lower slopes of the Alborz mountains, and I assume that it is runoff from the mountains that these water channels are meant to control.

On the larger, busier streets, the channels are basically very deep, very wide gutters, with small bridges of stone or metal for crossing over from sidewalk to street. But on older streets, like this one, the water runs down the middle of the sidewalk.
