Before the whalers set up shop there, Deception Island was used as a base for the seal-hunting industry. Now the hunters and the whalers are gone, and seals can hang out on the beach unmolested.
I hope that somewhere in their little furry brains there's room for a nyah nyah when they see the ruins around them.
