What a difference a day makes

I met up with my tour group early this morning in Fairbanks, and after a flurry of introductions in which I learned and immediately forgot twenty new names, we piled into three vans for the two and a half hour ride to the park entrance.

I had driven part of this highway yesterday while I still had the car. It was one of the only roads out of Fairbanks that the rental agreement allowed me to drive -- most of the roads were considered too rugged, including one of the main highways running through the center of town. I took the picture on the left at one of the overlooks: miles of forest and river and sky, with those glorious big puffy clouds.

I took the picture on the right from the van near the park entrance: churning threads of gray sky, just begging to rain.
