Rough passage
I had heard from fellow travellers who've sailed to the Canary Islands that sailing the Atlantic out of Lisbon tended to be bumpy. This was an understatement. We bounced up and down, up and down, last night and all of today with such regularity that I dreamed I was on a carousel that sat still while the horses went up and then down in turns, like fairy-tale spectators doing the wave.
Tonight was formal dress night so I had skipped the dining room, but when I went down to the main deck later to try to take pictures of the waves, I found myself standing in the middle of the champagne reception surrounded by sequins and tuxedos, wearing jeans and a hoodie.
My favorite touch from the rough weather was these leather pouches of seasick bags, which appeared on the bannisters at every floor.
