Alfama

Alfama is Lisbon's oldest neighborhood, a labyrinth of narrow streets originally laid out by the Moors. It survived the great earthquake of 1755, and though the original buildings were mostly destroyed by various fires, the old pattern of winding alleys remains, some of them barely wide enough to walk through.
