From Trogir we headed out into the Dalmatian countryside for lunch. The government has a program that pays farmers to help preserve Croatian traditions, and though the description of the excursion had made it sound potentially embarrassing -- being served ham while musicians in folk costumes perform -- it was completely delightful.
After a welcome from the owner, we were served grappa on a stone terrace and had a chance to look around while the musicians -- who were superb -- played.
Then we went inside to a large dining hall with stone walls and old wooden trestle tables where we were served lunch, all of it made on the farm: bread with olive oil, a platter of cheese and a prosciutto-like ham, pork chops with sauerkraut, and tiny doughnuts still hot from the oil. And wine. Lots and lots of wine.
Here's a blurry picture of a rather blurry me during the very merry meal.
I am a native in this world And think in it as a native thinks
