From the ramparts




Something else I didn't see the first time I was in Malta were the Upper Barracca Gardens, atop the ramparts of Valletta. Like so much else in Malta, they were created for the private enjoyment of the Knights of St. John in the 17th century, but now the beautiful harbor views are available to all.

I've never seen anything like these funny twisty trees (below) on the road back down to the wharf.

They look like candelabras, almost artificial, but alas, no Guillermo was in the vicinity to identify them for me.
