I heard these roosters crowing on the other side of a fence near the botanical garden in Ghent, but they scurried away as soon as I walked through the gate looking for them. I ran after them, but they were surprisingly fast on those stubby little legs, so the picture is a little blurry. But worth it for those wonderful colors!
I am nostalgic for those days not so long ago when I could run after anything. The current best guess from my teams of doctors is that I did catch something in Africa, but the antibiotics they gave me in the hospital there wiped out the original infection, so it's not possible to know what it was. What I'm experiencing now are secondary effects triggered by that infection.
I'm better than I was a couple of weeks ago, but not great, and I am more than a little impatient for this to go away already.
