There was an African aviary at the zoo, a small enclosure with birds moving freely around inside. I stayed for as long as I could stand the equatorial rain forest heat and humidity, but never got any decent shots of the birds. There were too many children still running in and out and spooking the birds, and eventually my lenses fogged up so badly I couldn't see through them anymore.
It's somehow appropriate that this is the only good bird shot I got at the zoo, apart from the flamingos: a crow, sitting in a tree. Not as glamorous as the oxpeckers and other African species maybe, but wild, uncaged, and most importantly, sitting in plain view.
