Farewell to Minnesota
This is the bridge over the Mississippi River a few blocks from my hotel. I walked over it on Friday afternoon, and it was hot, and there was no shelter from the sun. I quickly wished that I had a hat—or that I had remembered to put on sunscreen.
It's going to be over a hundred degrees here today, so I am getting out of town in the nick of time.

Hot as hell
This dramatic sunrise closeup feels appropriate after surviving a few days in hot, humid Savannah. The weather probably hasn't been much worse than we'd get in New York in July, but it's May and my body definitely isn't ready for this.
Also, my hair has apparently morphed into some kind of out of control shrubbery. Fortunately it's frequently plastered flat to my skull by sweat.

In which I'm grateful not to be Marco Polo

I didn't go very far before being very grateful that the remainder of my own journey would take place inside an air-conditioned van.
