The unexpected rusticity

Another bench I passed along the way, and grasses growing along a small stream. The crowds and traffic on the High Street seem very far away here; even the college itself, with its quads and spires, feels miles away.

There are allegedly otters and kingfishers in these woods, but I didn't see any. I had to look hard for the deer!

The Water Meadow

I sat on that bench for a while, hoping the deer would come out from under the trees where they were hiding. They did not.

Homeless Jesus

But I did love this outside the cathedral: a status of Jesus as a homeless man (identifiable only by the wounds on his feet), created by a Canadian artist, Timothy Schmalz.

Beach views

Old Woman Bay

This pretty bay has a long sandy beach, with lots of driftwood and interesting rocks (though not, alas, agates, at least not that we saw.)

It's named for a rock formation on the cliffs that allegedly looks like an old woman's face.

Urban poetry

This is just a bench in one of the corporate pocket parks in Midtown, but I loved the arrangement of the trees and the benches.

I am actually in California; I will write more about that and post some pictures later. I had an airline credit that was about to expire, and Covid cases are low at the moment, so I took a few very deep breaths and went for it. It's a short visit because of my school schedule, but more than worth the jet lag.
