Leaving New Orleans
A picture from the plane as I was leaving. You can clearly see that this part of Louisiana is mostly water -- it's not just the river and the lake and the gulf; it's the hundreds of canals linking them, crisscrossing the land and keeping it all in balance. And why a storm surge that left water levels twelve feet higher was such a disaster.
