You do sometimes feel like the castle buildings are just always there. Here, behind a group of buildings by the river (under a truly ominous sky) and later that afternoon, behind the fountain commemorating Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee, across from the Alexandra Gardens.
I am a native in this world And think in it as a native thinks

Westminster Cathedral
Since I don't have any bird pictures except maybe another crow, and I started with the London and the V&A yesterday, and it is Sunday after all, here are two pictures of Westminster Cathedral (not to be confused with Westminster Abbey, which is of course CofE; this cathedral is Roman Catholic) from last week.
I've always loved the brick and stone stripes on this building; one of the things I enjoyed during my brief stay in London was seeing all the wonderful brick buildings again. It was a nice change from the stone spires of Oxford.

Inside the Tower of Victory
The statues that are usually here have been removed temporarily, but I love those spiral staircases.
From a distance -- I could walk up without much difficulty but would probably have to spend the rest of my life up in the belfry rather than attempt to walk down.

Urban poetry
I love the bright green of these doors in Chelsea, but I admit to being confused by the positioning.
If the larger door is used for deliveries, you could back a truck up against it and just step into the building, but how does the smaller door function for anything without any steps leading up to it?

Saturday reflections
Windows and brick.
I'm too tired to say anything interesting about them. I had a doctor's appointment downtown this afternoon, and thought I might vote on the way home.
The line was three blocks long, so no.

Urban poetry
The lettering is faded so you may not be able to read the sign, but this is The Tri-Store Bridge, in Providence.
This bridge linked three long-gone department stores -- Cherry & Webb, Gladdings and Shepard -- in what was once the retail center of downtown Providence. The Google tells me that the bridge was built in the late nineteenth century, so it would have been handy for the ladies in their long dresses to move from store to store without having to go out in the rain or snow.

Inside
It's dim and cool and hard to photograph, as any self-respecting caravanserai ought to be, but full of cushions and carpets and nooks to get lost in.

Saturday reflections
Brick within brick.
I took this picture in June, in Chicago, but it has an autumnal air, with the leafless vines snaking up the bricks against the growly sky.
