Cambridge American Cemetery

Slight sidetrack here. On the way into Cambridge we stopped at this cemetery, where 3800 Americans killed in World War II are buried.

It's a beautiful location, and the visitor's center is excellent. There are exhibits outlining the history of American involvement in the war, the impact on the locals of the large numbers of military and support who were suddenly occupying a relatively small island, and individual stories of some of those buried in the cemetery.

I was glad that we had gone there on the way to Cambridge, rather than afterwards as originally planned, because it made the visit to the Eagle more poignant.
