Juxtaposition
I was going to call this post The contradictions of modern Iran, but that's too glib (and it would be more than a little presumptuous of me to claim any great insights after ten whole days in the country.)
I will probably write about hijab later, when I have time to do it thoughtfully, but although the clothes these women are wearing make a nice photograph, and a pointed contrast with the man walking by them, they're not wearing typical Iranian clothing at all, and they may just have been tourists (from India, perhaps -- those look more like saris than Iranian manteaus or chadors.) And it's the women who tend to wear black here, not the men.
But I love this picture anyway.
